First Casualty?

Rhuthun/Ruthin’s one remaining greengrocer closes today.

Unlike the initial post-Lo-Cost (now Co-op) greengrocer shake out, which saw the demise of long-standing traders such as Williams, Roberts, Grosvenor, Crown House and Aibee’s, Reebee’s is one of the newer vegetable shops in the town, all of which appear to have struggled as people tend to buy their fruit and vegetables from supermarkets.

Reebee’s will continue its florist business.

Is Reebee’s the first Tesco casualty in Rhuthun/Ruthin? It emerged on Wednesday that footfall in the town, post-Tesco, was down by up to 20 per cent. Is the fact that the closure comes some 10 weeks after Tesco’s opening a coincidence? Or does it simply reflect the difficult trading environment in the supermarket age for all greengrocers?

Thank you to those who have recently posted comments. I shall feature some of these next week
