Link Road

The WDA-sponsored link road to the north of the town from the Farmers’ Market to Tesco is late. But at least the bridge span over the River Clwyd is now in progress. It apparently was planned to be finished in the spring. Although it was nothing to do with Tesco, the road is a major benefit to the supermarket. The road is designed to open up new development – housing and light industrial.

But the rules on the number of starter homes appear to have changed, which means the original property developer appears to have lifted two fingers to the whole development. Stage payments from the WDA to the contractors are said to be slower as a result of the uncertainty, which means the road itself is off track. But such issues are not rare in major developments and all parties will see the building of houses – of whatever size and affordability – soon.

Some facts about the scheme:

 The road will cost £3.4mil.
 Construction is by local firm Jones Bros.
 10 no. 30t 23m beams will cross the Clwyd, at Pont Glasdir.
 Engineers have had to compensate for bad ground around the Clwyd.
 The scheme is designed to unlock development land plus ease congestion.
