In Passing—Februray 2018

Work began on the area's most dangerous road road where motorists get it wrong most, as average speed camera preparations began. The A5104's speed was reduces to 50 mph but, as a result, crashes have increased, as motorists widely ignore the limit... hence the cameras.

Meanwhile, a heavy vehicle finished off the pedestrian railings at Anchor Corner and they were removed. They placed bollards over the resultant pins but these tended to wander.

You never know what you might find in roadworks till you dig. The gas works due to finish at the end of February were over-running by 10 days towards the end of the month owing, in part, to the contractors having damaged a water main. They awaited repairs but in the end they did them, themselves. Work stopped for the last days in February/first days in March, owing to the severe weather—a further set back. Meanwhile, footfall fell.

Unbelievably, early February was very mild, with daytime temperatures reaching low double figures, at times.  Over night Tuesday to Wednesday January 23rd to 24th, in spite of a *northerly* airstream, mild temperatures climbed to a high of 12ÂşC at 4 a.m. (sic). By 7 a.m., they were back to slightly below the season average, at 5½ÂşC...

... whereas the end of February saw daytime temperatures do down to –6°C (not that this postie seems to care in this view of snow and shorts).

Work continues on Clwyd Bank, with the erection of scaffolding to the front and roof.

Up went a sign in mid-February warning customers at Well Street Pharmacy that Saturday opening times were to be reduced. From March 3rd, the new proprietors will shut on Saturdays at 2 p.m. joining a growing number to do so.

The shop selling industrial cleaners on Well Street now has a name.

Fitting in February or January 2018 are these gull deterrents at the county hall car park.

Opposite Prior Street on Park Road is this new mirror to help traffic emerge on what is a low-visibility junction. The mirror's placed on land owned by Jones Bros.

Under preparation by two sisters for opening in the not to distant future is the former Celf a Chreff, latterly bathroom showroom on Well Street.
