Yesterday’s Tesco announcement that it will start its Rhuthun store extension next June came as no surprise, following the planning inspector over-ruling Denbighshire’s planning committee.
But what *was* a shock was the news that Tesco will use land at Wern veterinary surgery to build a petrol station next to its store car park.
A Tesco press release stated that:
Said a community leader who wished to remain anonymous, ‘Their petrol isn't the cheapest but at least I can use a year's worth of Clubcard points to fill up for free’.

But what *was* a shock was the news that Tesco will use land at Wern veterinary surgery to build a petrol station next to its store car park.
A Tesco press release stated that:
- Tesco will demolish Wern vets when Wern has relocated to Lôn Parcwr
- Tesco will slew the A494 road across the site currently occupied by the building
- This releases land between the current vets and Tesco car park, currently partly occupied by the existing A494, for a new petrol station adjacent to Tesco land
- To cope with increased traffic at the site, Tesco will fund traffic lights at an altered junction at Greenfield Road/Wernfechan/Bryn Goodman and on the so-called Briec Roundabout, allowing a new access to Tesco from the roundabout
Said a community leader who wished to remain anonymous, ‘Their petrol isn't the cheapest but at least I can use a year's worth of Clubcard points to fill up for free’.
